Blender 2.43

Blender 2.43 was released today. To my mind (and I’ve said this many times before) is the most professional open source project EVER. This is how open source should be. Every release is golden, and this one is a keeper. From the new website, the excellent release log, feature videos and the list honestly goes on. Download it NOW!

  1. Khaled, my skills in 3d / animation is almost close to zero. With that in mind, do you reckon this is a good software for me to begin playing around with? How is the learning curve for it?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. To be honest with you Blender isn’t really the easiest programme to get into. You need to really give it some time as it doesn’t work in the way that most other 3D programmes work. If you’ve got the patience and getting the manual will help you get into it (loads of great resource around the net as well to be honest).

  3. Actually the sculpting is quite easy to get into - a learning curve of 10 minutes or so. Just search for Blender sculpt tutorial.

  4. I had no prior experience with 3D modeling or animation when I first downloaded Blender either, and that was just over a month ago. Now I’m hooked like a crack fiend, scouring the net for every tutorial I can find and building more and more complex things every day. Blender is a great program to start with because it’s free and has a great community supporting it. Everyone’s been very helpful so far answering my questions in the forums and whatnot. Just don’t expect to be able to figure it out on your own. You’ll have to be willing to watch some videos and read some pages for a while. It’s rewarding though.
