This is the 9th iteration of the ‘kode. Although the original versions have been lost into the sands of internet time, thankfully someone smarter than me sorted out Archive.org out and so I’ve been wading through the pages trying to find the previous versions.
Version 1

This is the only graphic I have from the very first version of Broken Kode. It’s a shame because it was an extremely simple design that did had a massive footer area (before they became pretty fashionable). The one aspect of this design that I have retained (in spirit at least) is the ‘x’, which now forms part of the logo.
Version 2 and 2.5

This version came off the back of the Manji theme. I really like the colours used in this version, however I was being influenced by other things around me and so I eventually added a sidebar to it with a version tweak. This was also the first time that CoCo made his appearance.

Version 3

This was the first version that had three columns. The idea of course here was a printed page with all associated marks.
Version 4 - Saida

For a really long time this was my favourite incarnation, and probably the most distinct version. However my vision was far greater than my technical skills so it never was going to be a keeper. The drawing is still one of my favourites though.
Version 5

This was a move away from the typical white backgrounds that had dominated the site up until then, and a dark colored background has become a staple of the design.
Version 6

This is the more magazine style site. I like some aspect of this design and the associated code was the cleanest I’d written up until then. CoCo made his return, but I continued with the dark motif.
Version 7
This period of the site was a bit turbulent and so was going through several minor design tweaks. This was a pretty short lived version.
Version 8
This was the other half of the year that was turbulent.
Version 9
This version is my keeper. In essence I’ve decided to stop redesigning my site endlessly and settled down for a couple of years with the current version. The only thing that might change is the front page and the colour scheme to have something more bright on occasion.
