Golden Compass Cut Sheet

Golden Compass Cut Sheet. I know they’re calling it the Golden Compass, but it my eyes it will ALWAYS be Northern Lights. I mean seriously I think that’s pretty fucking stupid calling it something completely different in America to England, but anyway. For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, go out and read the best book you’ve never read, Philip Pullman’s classic His Dark Materials Trilogy. Then you can come back and thank me for pointing this masterpiece out to you. I accept donations of all kinds.

  1. Hey - we agree on a book :)

I loved Memoirs of a Geisha and I refuse to see the film because I am confident they will destroy my imagery and the magic the words created for me.
And I can’t help feeling that this too would happen with Lyra and her adventures. It would be good for those unfamiliar with the books, and for the kids market no doubt, but for readers and lovers of that trilogy? I don’t think so.

  2. Mark, it’s like Alan Moore says, no one will ever touch the original material. That will always remain completely untainted. This isn’t Sin City you know. They are two completely different beasts. All we as fans of the work, hope that the creators behind the movie don’t fuck this us as other directors have in the past to other lesser properties and stories.

I love Lyra. I love the world that Pullman has created. If they fuck this up they are so going to hear it from me, but the movie will never ruin the book. It can never do that.

  3. Personally, i can’t wait for Dragons of Autumn Twilight to be released in movie form (finally) sometime this year. The first three books in the Dragonlance saga were amazing. I have yet to read the Golden Compass, but it IS on my list.
